Music Classes

Music Class:

Traditional Irish Music

Description:

Laura Greaves Bursary
The classes run from the end of September to the end of May. Traditional music tuition in tin whistle, fiddle, accordion, flute and guitar.

We offer tuition in traditional music for children from ages 6 upwards and at every level of capability from beginners up. The school has been in operation since 1997 and many of the tutors are local young people who themselves have come through the school.

In addition from time to time we will engage high profile practitioners from the world of Traditional Music to engage in masterclasses and workshops for the benefit of the children. In 2008 / 2009 we were most fortunate to have an Artist-in-Residence scheme for fiddle music conducted by Michelle O’Brien and funded by Wicklow County Arts Office.

The main funding vehicle for the school is the annual Music Under The Mountains festival in Hollywood Village every September. The school is named after Laura Greaves who was one of the founding members of Music Under The Mountains and who sadly died in 1996
